Poetry Publishers Willing to Receive Submissions Electronically

Compiled continually by Louie Crew
© 1996, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 by Louie Crew

Always read a publication's guidelines before you submit materials.

Below I list poetry editors who are willing to receive submissions electronically. Some prefer that you send manuscripts in the body of an email message. Some prefer that you send manuscripts as attachments. Some prefer that you use forms provided at their website. Some specify several periods when they are open to receiving manuscripts; others welcome submissions the year round....

The editors expect you to follow submission quidelines at their website carefully.

  • To access the publication's web address, if any, click on the name of the publication.
  • To access an editor's email address, click on the editor's name, or on 'editor'.
  • If the link "Submit online" is shown, click on it to access an electronic submissions manager. Those publishers do not want you to submit by email.

Some editors have complained that too many people fail to read what they have said, sending long poems when short are desired, or short when long are desired..... Many will delete your material unread if you fail to follow the formatting requirements in their guidelines.

It is also helpful to study a copy of the magazine to determine whether your material would have a fit with the other material published. Many have back issues online; many indicate how you can purchase samples in hard copies.

Since creating this site in July 1996, I have continually added and removed publishers. I visit each website at least once a month, and I write to editors at least twice a year to confirm publications are still viable. If your own email to one of these bounces, please alert me. Help me keep the list as current as possible.

I do not approve of entry fees and reading fees. Nor do I approve of requiring an author to buy a copy of the publication to see her or his work. Please notify me of any publication below that requires these fees, and I will suspend the entry. Publishers should publish, not require the writers to provide the fees. Fees greatly reduce a publishers' incentive to be real publishers, i.e., to find readers for what the writers write.

Vanity is vanity. Anyone who requires reading fees, entry fees, or author purchases is running a vanity press. I realize that those who do, have some distinguished company, but it is vanity nevertheless.

On the other hand, I hope that all poets will be poetry consumers and subscribe voluntarily to a wide variety of literary magazines. It is vain to expect others to read our poetry if we have no abiding interest in poetry by other living writers. Would you knowingly entrust yourself to the care of a physician who never reads what living doctors are writing?

I hope the list below helps poets find good fits for our manuscripts and helps publishers to connect with good manuscripts.

I indicate the date for the entries added within 60 days of the most recent complete update of the list.
